Abadan Oil Refining Company (AORC)
Following the initial discovery of oil in Masjid-i-Solaiman in 1908, the idea of establishing a close by refinery which has an access to international waterways was developed. To this end a 2500 bbl/day distillation unit as part of Abadan Refinery was built in the Khuzestan province. This refinery had undergone several expansion program by adding new production units where its capacity had reached upto 630,000 bbl/day in 1980.
Abadan Refinery due to its vicinity to war-zone had undergone immense damages during the imposed war in 1981. However, following the ceasefire, a big strides were taken to reconstruct the whole refinery.
